Photoshop Tutorial- Sleek Content Box

Create a sleek content box in Adobe® Photoshop®.

This tutorial was made in Adobe® Photoshop® CS2. It can be done in some earlier versions as well.

So, open up Photoshop.

Create a new document with a white background sized 400px by 500px. Make sure the Color Mode is set to RGB Color.

Now, simply create a new layer (Shift + Ctrl + N) and call it "Black Background".

With the new layer selected, go to Edit > Fill (Shift + F5). Use: Black and press "OK".

Now, create another new layer (Shift + Ctrl + N) positioned on top of the "Black Background" layer and call it "Content Box".

Press "D" to ensure that your foreground color black, and your background color is white. Then, select the Rectancle Tool.

On the "Content Box" layer, with the foreground color set to black, drag out a large rectangle.

Right click the "Content Box" layer and select Blending Options...

Enable Drop Shadow with the following settings:

And enable Stroke with the following settings:

Hopefully, you now have something like this:

Now, create yet another new layer called "Gloss".

Grab the Polygon Lasso tool...

And make a triangular selection at the top right corner of the content box like this:

With the "Gloss" layer selected, go to Edit > Fill (Shift + F5). Use: White and press "OK".

You should now have this:

Now, to get rid of the extra gloss, holding Ctrl, click the "Content Box" layer. Select the inverse (Shift+Ctrl+I) and making sure the "Gloss" layer is selected, press Delete.

Simply lower to the opacity of the gloss layer to around 8-15%.

You should now have something like this:

Inbetween the "Gloss" layer and "ContentBox" layer, add some content. I also added a horizontal scan line pattern above the background.

And there you have it, a sleek, fresh, content box.

I hope you learned something or were inspired in some way by this tutorial!
